When I was asked by a talented WordPress developer friend of mine, Shay Bocks, to photograph a Montessori school I had no idea what was in store. I was very pleasantly surprised.
According to the collective wisdom of Wikipedia, Montessori education is an educational approach developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori and characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. According to my experience, Montessori education is freaking awesome.
These kids work independently and collaboratively on all sorts of cool projects, do their own dishes and actually enjoy school. They genuinely want to be there. I didn’t see any boring lectures with kids forced to sit at a desk all day. They were all very well behaved. Also, Shay fed me donuts so it was a very good day.
